In a series of leaked Sony Pictures emails, top Hollywood producer Scott Rudin criticized actress Angelina Jolie, calling her a “minimally talented spoiled brat.”

These emails, part of a larger Sony hack, exposed a heated exchange between Rudin and Sony’s co-chairperson, Amy Pascal, regarding Jolie’s dissatisfaction with the direction of a forthcoming biopic on Steve Jobs.

The controversy began when Jolie, a UN goodwill ambassador, expressed displeasure with director David Fincher’s involvement in the Jobs biopic instead of a Cleopatra remake, where she intended to play the lead role. Rudin, 56, and Pascal discussed Jolie’s concerns, and the conversation quickly escalated.

According to emails published by Gawker, Rudin’s patience wore thin with Jolie’s demands. He stated, “She’ll survive it. I don’t want to waste my time on this.”

However, as the day progressed, the tone became more intense. Rudin warned Pascal, “You better shut Angie down before she makes it very hard for David to do Jobs.” Pascal responded harshly, “Do not f**king threaten me.”

The email exchange revealed Rudin’s growing frustration with Jolie’s behavior. He described her as a “rampaging spoiled ego” and criticized the proposed Cleopatra film for its excessive cost and lack of a proper script.

Rudin’s anger culminated in a scathing remark, “I’m not remotely interested in presiding over a $180m ego bath that we both know will be the career-defining debacle for us both.

I’m not destroying my career over a minimally talented spoiled brat who thought nothing of shoving this off her plate for eighteen months so she could go direct a movie.”

The tension between Rudin and Pascal ultimately impacted the Jobs biopic, with Sony pulling out of the project and Universal taking over.

Rudin’s frustration with Pascal continued even after Sony’s exit, as he blamed her for the project’s setbacks and warned of the damage to her professional reputation.

This email leak was part of a larger cyberattack on Sony, suspected to be linked to North Korea, which exposed confidential data from 47,000 employees, along with sensitive files and communications.

The breach raised security concerns, leading Sony to investigate whether personal information related to other members of the British royal family connected to Sony’s London office had been compromised.
