Scarlett Johansson might be the next star to join the “Jurassic World” franchise. The “Avengers” actress is reportedly in discussions to take on a leading role in the upcoming 2025 installment, according to sources from Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter.
Although Universal Pictures has not confirmed the reports, and Johansson’s representatives haven’t responded to requests for comment, the news has generated considerable buzz. The new “Jurassic World” film is set to hit theaters on July 2, 2025, under the direction of Gareth Edwards.
Edwards is known for his work on “Godzilla” (2014), “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” (2016), and the recent sci-fi film “The Creator” (2023).
David Koepp, who wrote the screenplay for the original 1993 “Jurassic Park” film and the 1997 sequel “The Lost World: Jurassic Park,” will be penning the script for the new movie.
This installment will feature a brand-new storyline, moving away from the recent trilogy that starred Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard.
While the new film is expected to diverge from the Pratt-Howard trilogy, the most recent movie, “Jurassic World Dominion” (2022), concluded that chapter with the return of original stars Laura Dern, Sam Neill, and Jeff Goldblum.
Scarlett Johansson, nominated for two Oscars, is known for her role as Natasha Romanoff, a.k.a. Black Widow, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In an interview with Variety last year, she expressed mixed feelings about saying goodbye to the character after a decade-long journey with Marvel Studios.
“Yeah, I am sad, of course. I loved every filming experience, working ten years with Marvel and with that amazing cast, and I love the character Natasha,” she said. “I have a lot of empathy for her, and it was amazing to build that character over such a long period.”
With Johansson’s potential involvement in the new “Jurassic World” movie, fans are excited to see her take on a new adventure in the dinosaur-filled franchise.
