It’s difficult to hear about the suffering that some dogs endure due to human cruelty. One such heartbreaking story is that of Lucky, a dog found abandoned on train tracks in Montgomery County, Philadelphia. Unable to use his back legs due to severe injuries, Lucky was trapped in a terrifying situation for two days, trying to survive as trains passed by.
Thankfully, compassionate individuals noticed his plight and promptly alerted the authorities. A group of police officers and rescuers arrived to help, moved by the sorrow in Lucky’s eyes as he lay defenseless on the tracks. His rescuers, their hearts heavy with emotion, comforted him with food and promises that he would not be left alone.

Philly Rescue Angels INC took charge of Lucky’s care and swiftly transported him to a clinic. There, he received treatment for the deep scrapes and broken teeth he had suffered. Despite the vet’s grim diagnosis of a serious spinal cord injury caused by a train collision, Lucky’s rescuers refused to give up on him. Sidara Son, one of the brave rescuers, strongly opposed euthanasia, determined to see him recover.
Demonstrating great resilience, Lucky underwent a six-hour spinal surgery and emerged victorious. As he donned a new harness, he showered his rescuers with gratitude and affection, retaining his gentle spirit despite his ordeal. His story shared on social media touched many hearts, prompting offers to foster or adopt him. However, his extensive medical needs required a careful choice of foster care.
Kimberly Price Astringer from Tiny Paws Rescue became Lucky’s medical foster mom, providing him with the love and care he desperately needed. Sidara Son remained involved, accompanying him on vet visits. Supported by an amazing foster family, Lucky began to heal, eventually using a wheeled cart to move around, smile, and play with his toys again. However, the traumatic experience left him with anxiety, which he slowly overcame.
On January 26th, 2023, Philly Rescue Angels INC shared a positive update: Lucky was making progress, able to stand, with some movement in his tail. Despite this, no one had stepped forward to adopt him after he regained his health. But fate had other plans.
Sidara Son, who had formed a strong bond with Lucky from their first meeting, decided to give him a forever home. Reunited with Son, Lucky couldn’t contain his joy, lavishly offering her kisses. Welcomed by Son’s pack of animals, Lucky found peace and security, overcoming his anxieties and fears, and finally experiencing the love he deserved.
Son shared on Facebook how Lucky had flourished in her home, his fears vanishing as he settled into his new family. Thriving in his loving environment, Lucky now enjoys the best life, embraced by his devoted mom and animal companions.
