Last Update:

In a secluded part of a forest in Gabon, a leopard became captivated by its reflection in a mirror. Motion-activated cameras captured this unique behavior. Typically, self-recognition in animals is rare.

Initially puzzled by the mirror, the leopard seemed to think another leopard was in front of him. He growled and took an aggressive stance but gradually realized it was his reflection.

As the leopard was engrossed in studying the mirror, a herd of elephants charged him, aiming to scare away their natural predator. However, the leopard didn’t flee and waited nearby for the elephants to leave.

Interestingly, the elephants who circled the mirror did not appear to recognize their reflections. Once they returned to the trees, the leopard approached the mirror again, admiring his reflection.
