Heartfelt Reunion: Sister Dogs Overcome Shelter Sadness Together

Published on

When dogs who once lived with loving families end up in shelters, they often feel overwhelmed and heartbroken. Suddenly, everything familiar is gone, replaced by a daunting new reality that leaves them grappling with fear and sadness.

This sudden shift can be confusing for the dogs, making them question what they might have done wrong.

For Dominoa, a five-year-old dog, this was the distressing reality when her family left her at a shelter. She didn’t understand why she found herself alone after being the beloved center of her family’s world for four years.

Her life, once filled with happiness, was upended when her family brought her to Dekalb County Animal Services, explaining they could no longer care for her.

The chaotic, noisy environment of the shelter was a shock for Dominoa, who struggled to navigate the new and stressful surroundings.

Mary Alex, seeing Dominoa’s distress, stepped in to foster her immediately. Mary told The Dodo, “She was skin and bones. She wouldn’t eat dog food.

I even cooked a chicken breast and sat with her trying to feed her, but she just wouldn’t eat. I thought, ‘This poor baby.’”

Dominoa was too scared and overwhelmed to eat, causing Mary a great deal of concern as she searched for ways to help her foster dog.

Then, a crucial discovery brought about a turning point. Mary learned Dominoa had a sister named Rocks, who was also surrendered and being fostered by another volunteer.

Reunited, Dominoa’s spirits lifted, and she began eating again. Rocks also seemed more at ease, and it was clear that the bond between them was strong.

Mary and the rescue team quickly realized that the sisters should remain together, and they hoped to find a loving home willing to adopt both dogs.

In foster care, Dominoa slowly began to heal, showing signs of the same unconditional love she once had for her original family. This time, she had the support and stability she needed to grow stronger.

We hope that one day soon, Dominoa and Rocks will find a wonderful family who will cherish them and provide the loving home they truly deserve. These delightful pups have so much love to give and deserve a chance at the best life possible.
