For many dogs, being separated from their loved ones is an unbearable experience. The feeling of abandonment is even more heartbreaking when it happens unexpectedly.

This unfortunate scenario became a reality for Fritter, an elderly dog from Southern California. When his owners faced eviction, they hurriedly left the house, leaving behind their loyal friend, Fritter.

Alone in the backyard, Fritter made himself a makeshift bed from a discarded cardboard box, hoping his family would return for him.

He spent his days scanning the passing cars, each engine sound raising his hopes that it might be his family coming back.

Though neighbors offered food and water, Fritter was too scared to let anyone near. His fear and confusion kept him hopeful yet distant, longing for his owners to reappear.

When neighbors discovered the house was set for demolition, they reached out to Suzette Hall, a rescuer with Logan’s Legacy.

She described Fritter’s routine, saying, “He would wait literally in the street and hope each car would be them coming back. He would go back to his house and sleep in a box in the backyard.”

Trying to lure him with a humane trap filled with food, Suzette hoped to gain Fritter’s trust. Instead, he stayed in his makeshift bed, cautious of the unfamiliar person.

Finally, with the help of a friend, Suzette managed to gently coax Fritter into a crate. As they drove to Camino Pet Hospital in Irvine, California, the frightened dog trembled.

Yet, before the veterinary check-up, he allowed Suzette to comfort him with a hug.
