A baby elephant in South Africa delighted tourists when it attempted to “charge” at them, only to quickly lose its nerve and back away.

The moment was caught on camera by a visitor seated in a parked safari jeep. As the group quietly watched, the young elephant noticed their presence and seemed eager to make an impression.

The calf began a mock charge as if trying to intimidate the vehicle, but when the jeep held steady, it abruptly stopped.

In an amusing twist, the little elephant then acted as if nothing had happened, turning away and twirling some grass with its trunk.

Building up its courage, the calf tried again moments later, taking a few steps forward before once more deciding to halt and retreat.

The video captures a larger elephant joining the scene, offering the young calf a bit of reassurance. Despite this added confidence, the baby elephant’s final attempt to approach the jeep ends with an awkward stumble, causing it to trip slightly before recovering its balance.

With its playful display over, the calf eventually rejoins its herd and ambles back into the jungle.
