A young dog named Duke was abandoned and left to perish after his owner no longer wanted him.
Tied to an old truck, Duke became ill, and rather than getting him help, his owner spread unfounded rumors about him being “diseased” and “untouchable.”
These cruel stories instilled fear in people, who began avoiding him. Once cherished for his companionship, Duke was now shunned as an outcast.

Fortunately, a compassionate woman saw through the falsehoods and contacted the Rudozem Street Dog Rescue, hoping it wasn’t too late for Duke. The rescue team acted swiftly, motivated to provide Duke with the chance at life he deserved.
They discovered that Duke had been confined to the truck for 10 days, suffering from broken feet inflicted by his previous owner. Covered in filth, riddled with fleas, and severely malnourished, Duke was in dire condition.
According to Tony Rowles, cofounder of the rescue organization, seeing Duke’s condition was shocking.

“It was a real shock when the vet said this was trauma to his feet,” Rowles explained, noting the extent of the injuries: “His feet were shattered…bones were just floating.”
Upon arriving to assist Duke, Rowles was deeply unsettled by the dog’s environment and the neglect he suffered. “He was very scared…there was a stench of ammonia,” Rowles remembered. “He couldn’t move anywhere.”
Recognizing the overcrowded conditions at the shelter, Tony Rowles decided to bring Duke to his own home. There, Duke was slowly introduced to Rowles’ dogs, providing him not only safety and warmth but also a sense of belonging.

Initially fearful, Duke found comfort and formed a strong bond with Rowles’ wife, Diane. “He really made an attachment with my wife Diane,” Rowles noted, observing how Duke’s fear faded over time.
After undergoing surgery to repair his damaged feet and experiencing genuine care, Duke was finally adopted by a loving woman in England, marking the beginning of a joyous new chapter in his life.
This story underscores the vital role rescue organizations play in transforming the lives of abandoned and mistreated animals.
