The team from Kings Harvest Pet Rescue No Kill Shelter in Iowa was shocked when they found this dog enduring the frigid weather alone. Witnesses reported seeing the owner forsake the dog near an old shelter building before driving away. It’s likely the owner assumed the shelter was still operational, believing the dog would quickly receive care. However, the building had been empty for months. Reviewing security footage revealed the heartbreaking moment: the dog followed her owner to the cage, only to be abandoned there.
The rescuers also noticed the dog, named Rise, was limping, adding to the sorrowful scene. After the owner left, a concerned passerby discovered Rise and called for help. Upon arriving, the rescuers found her severely neglected. Thin and in obvious pain, Rise required immediate care, prompting the team to transport her to their shelter where she could receive the desperately needed attention.
Now in a safe environment, Rise began her recovery, receiving medical treatment. Thankfully, her health issues weren’t severe, suggesting a quick path to rehabilitation. Before finding a permanent home, Rise will need vaccinations and further care. The rescuers are diligently working to locate a foster home where she can stay while searching for a forever family.
Details about Rise’s former owner remain unknown, but one thing is clear—better choices could have been made. Directly surrendering the dog to the shelter would have been more responsible than abandoning her in the cold.
