The rescue team quickly isolated Snowie, monitoring him for signs of rabies. It wasn’t long before troubling symptoms emerged—aggression, excessive salivation, and sensitivity to sound.
Concerned that the disease was progressing rapidly, the team needed to act fast.

Testing for rabies required a saliva sample, but Snowie’s condition made the process difficult. Scared and defensive, he resisted handling.
Using a humane approach, the team carefully secured him with a net and sedated him to safely collect the sample. However, during the ordeal, Snowie bit his own tail, adding to his suffering.

The team worked quickly to treat his wound and ensure he was as comfortable as possible.
The next day, when Snowie’s owner returned, there was a brief glimmer of hope—Snowie recognized his voice and followed commands.
But within moments, his behavior took a frightening turn. He began growling, biting at the door, and showing signs of extreme aggression. The reality was clear: rabies was taking full control, and there was no cure.

Snowie’s heartbreaking story serves as a stark reminder of how devastating rabies can be. Once symptoms appear, the disease is always fatal.
However, it is entirely preventable through vaccination. The Manali Strays team used Snowie’s case to raise awareness about the importance of rabies vaccines, urging pet owners to protect their animals before it’s too late.

Following this tragedy, Snowie’s owner took immediate steps to check on his puppy’s siblings, ensuring they received proper care.
Meanwhile, the rescue team continued their community vaccination drives, determined to protect as many animals as possible from the deadly virus.

Snowie’s story underscores an urgent message—vaccination saves lives. By ensuring pets receive their rabies shots, owners can prevent unnecessary suffering and safeguard both animals and people from this lethal disease.
