On NBC’s “Saturday Night Live,” Scarlett Johansson took on the role of US Senator Katie Britt in a sketch mocking President Biden’s State of the Union address and the Republican response.
During the show’s opening, Johansson portrayed Britt as a caricature of an intense suburban mom, drawing laughs with her over-the-top antics.

In the skit, Johansson said, “I have the honor of serving the great people of Alabama. But tonight, I’ll be auditioning for the part of scary mom and performing an original monologue called ‘This Country Is Hell.’ You see, I’m not just a senator. I’m a wife, a mother, and the craziest b—h in the Target parking lot.”
The sketch lampooned Britt’s odd and controversial rebuttal to Biden’s speech, which took place in her kitchen.

It also poked fun at her narrative style, mocking her emphasis on topics like immigration and migrant issues.
Still, in character, Johansson joked about her kitchen setting, suggesting it was designed to appeal to women voters.
“Kitchens are where families have the hard conversations,” she added, “like the one we’ll have tomorrow about how mommy freaked out the entire country.”

The skit referenced Britt’s speech’s inaccuracies and the puzzling way she discussed topics like sex trafficking, pointing out her tendency to pivot into violent stories with exaggerated or misleading details.
At one point, the sketch shifted to a scene from Jordan Peele’s film “Get Out,” humorously suggesting that Britt’s kitchen backdrop could double as an infomercial for a diamond-studded cross necklace.
The sketch also included another jab, Johansson saying, “To the American people who are struggling right now, know this.

We hear you, we see you, we smell you. We’re inside your kitchen right now, looking through your fridge. And what’s that on the top shelf? Migrants.”
In addition to Britt, other politicians were roasted during the show, and Mike Day portrayed a hyper-energized President Biden, taking jabs at his critics and delivering an over-the-top performance to mock the president’s age and energy level.
The skit ended with Day as Biden addressing the audience, hinting that Britt’s rebuttal might have done more harm than good for the Republican response, saying, “You know, I would stay here and talk to you all more, but I saw a glimpse of the Republican senator’s response to my speech, and I think she’s going to help me more than anything else I can say here. Enjoy.”
