Truvy, a small dog missing for nearly a year, was found living alone by the side of a busy road, sparking a heartwarming reunion with her family. Her adventure began near a cemetery, where she lived dangerously close to traffic.
Cindy Nash, the founder of Nicholas’ Pet Haven in Texas, received a call from a concerned local about the small dog, feared to be in peril near the bustling road. Prompted by the woman’s concern, Cindy and her team sprang into action to locate the pup.

While setting traps to catch the dog, the team encountered Dr. Harshivinderjit S. Bains. Dr. Bains had been caring for the dog, named Truvy, from a distance as she sheltered in his under-construction clinic. For a year, he provided Truvy with bedding, food, and water, hoping one day she would accept his care more fully. “He really loves that dog and wanted to take her home,” Cindy shared with The Dodo.
Later, Cindy returned to check on the traps and found Truvy patiently waiting inside one. Overjoyed, Cindy gently opened the cage, and Truvy leapt into her lap, marking the beginning of her new journey.

Back at Cindy’s home, Truvy got a much-needed bath, happily shedding the sticker burrs from her fur. The next day, a visit to the veterinarian revealed a pleasant surprise – Truvy had a microchip.
Cindy immediately reached out to Truvy’s family, who were thrilled to hear that their long-lost pet had been found. Amy Logan, Truvy’s owner, explained that Truvy had escaped through their iron fence when they first moved to Texas. The Logans had canvassed the neighborhood extensively, driving and reaching out to animal organizations, hoping for her safe return.

After almost 13 months, the persistence paid off due to Amy keeping Truvy’s microchip details up to date. The family was overjoyed to know that Truvy was healthy after living on the streets.
The next day, Cindy reunited Truvy with her family. It took Truvy a moment, but soon she recognized her mom and settled comfortably into her familiar surroundings. Cindy remarked, “She was just one lucky little girl.”

Though Dr. Bains felt a touch of sadness for not being able to provide Truvy a forever home, he expressed his happiness in knowing she had returned to her rightful family. Amy extended her deep gratitude to Dr. Bains for his role in keeping Truvy safe and sound in those difficult months.
