Last year, a dedicated group known as Bakersfield Strays embarked on a mission to save six tiny puppies left abandoned in a remote area. Fortunately, their efforts paid off, leading to a happy ending for the pups.
In a lonely stretch of road surrounded by the vineyards and orchards of Kern County, California, six puppies were found wandering without guidance, desperately seeking help with no one around to assist them.

Yesenia Giles, a volunteer from Bakersfield Strays, vividly described the situation. “They were cold, soaked from the rain, and incredibly scared,” she recounted. When the Friends of Abandoned Dogs, partners with Bakersfield Strays, learned of the puppies’ plight, they leapt into action. Urgently, the rescue team was sent to the remote location, hoping to save the pups in the nick of time.
“When I saw the puppies running down the road, fear gripped me,” Yesenia shared with The Dodo. “I was terrified they might be struck by a car or become prey for a coyote. Yet, I also felt a deep urge to help them, to give them a chance.”

The little ones, wary from their ordeal, scattered even more upon noticing the rescuers. The rescue operation was not easy and stretched over nearly a day, but eventually, all six puppies were safely gathered.
Once rescued, the puppies, who were exhausted, scared, and hungry, finally found solace. One pup was so frightened he couldn’t even bear to look at his rescuers.

The team took the puppies to Pups Without Borders, where they received comprehensive medical attention, nourishment, and hydration. In just a few days, the puppies began to show significant signs of regaining trust in people.
Pups Without Borders provided a temporary sanctuary for these pups and successfully found each of them a loving forever home. Their uncertain days of wandering are now behind them, and they’re happily and safely settled in their new families.
