In recent times, many people have faced tough decisions, and sadly, pets often bear the brunt of these choices. A growing number of dogs are being left in shelters or abandoned.
Animal shelters are seeing an overflow of pets being surrendered or left behind. This trend is largely driven by the economic uncertainties people face, particularly the loss of jobs or fear of job loss.

One such story of hardship comes from Orlando, Florida. A man, dealing with financial troubles, reached a heartbreaking decision regarding his cherished pit bull, Lincoln.
In desperation, he tied Lincoln to a neighbor’s tree during the night, leaving a poignant note behind. The letter explained his dire situation and implored the neighbor to care for Lincoln or find him a loving home. “I am leaving to California to be with my mother and brother during this pandemic. Please take care of Lincoln; I trust you with my baby. I’m sorry,” the note conveyed.
The neighbor found it impossible to keep Lincoln, but the story took a hopeful turn when The Pittie Party of Central Florida (TPPCF), a local rescue group, intervened.

A volunteer named Mayson Jones welcomed Lincoln into their home, showering him with affection and play. Even though Lincoln missed his original owner, his playful demeanor and wagging tail remained.
Lincoln’s story found a silver lining when Melanie Anderson decided to foster him. Under her care, Lincoln enjoys sunny naps and boat rides with his foster family as he awaits a permanent home.
Sadly, Lincoln’s situation mirrors that of many other dogs. Shelters are overwhelmed with pets being abandoned. In response, TPPCF and similar rescue operations are appealing for foster families to open their hearts and homes to homeless dogs.

These organizations cover all costs of fostering and emphasize the crucial role foster families play. As stated on TPPCF’s Facebook page, “There is no way we would ever be able to do what we do without the dedication and commitment from foster families. These individuals are the true heroes in rescue!”
By fostering a dog, you provide a safe haven for a deserving animal and free up space in shelters for others in need. And who knows, you might just find your forever friend in the process!
