Every dog deserves a life filled with love and happiness. Their wagging tails and affectionate eyes have a magical way of bringing joy to those around them. However, not all dogs are fortunate enough to experience such care and affection.
It’s heart-wrenching to realize that some dogs endure mistreatment or abandonment. Among these unfortunate canines was Ladybird, an innocent puppy who faced human cruelty when she was left tied to a tree.

Despite feeling cold and frightened, Ladybird waited patiently by the roadside, her sorrowful eyes fixed on the passing cars, hoping for a kind soul to rescue her. Her plight came to an end when a compassionate driver spotted her and immediately reached out to the Lewis County Animal Shelter.
The rescue team promptly arrived and brought Ladybird to the shelter. “She was so stoic by that tree, just waiting for someone to notice her. We’re so thankful the shelter found her,” Kim Desroches from Friends of Lewis County Animals shared with The Dodo.
Upon arriving at the shelter, Ladybird was understandably scared and unsure of her new surroundings. Recognizing that the bustling environment was not suitable for such a vulnerable young puppy, the shelter staff, along with Kim Desroches, decided to find her a more nurturing environment.

Desroches, upon seeing Ladybird’s photo online, felt an immediate urge to help the little pup. Shocked that anyone could abandon such a sweet creature, she was determined to find Ladybird a foster home to protect her from potential illnesses at the shelter.
Thanks to Desroches’ efforts, Ladybird soon moved in with a foster family, where she was showered with love and care. Cuddles and affection reassured Ladybird, helping her to relax and reveal her playful side.

After spending time in foster care, Ladybird’s journey took her to the Licking County Humane Society in Ohio. On January 27th, 2024, the society happily announced on Facebook that Ladybird was on the brink of finding a forever home.
We’re hopeful that Ladybird will soon experience the love and security she so richly deserves and that she will never feel abandoned again.
