A recent wildfire in Los Angeles has caused significant heartache, leaving many people without homes, and separating families from both their loved ones and their pets. Among those affected is a tiny puppy named Manzanita, who faces her own set of challenges.
Manzanita, a puppy with neurological issues, was forced to part ways with her second adoptive family after they surrendered her to a shelter in California. Due to the overwhelming task of rebuilding their lives after the wildfire, her family felt they had no choice but to leave Manzanita in what they believed to be her best interest.
Arriving at the Pasadena Humane Society, Manzanita’s family had to make the painful decision to say goodbye so they could concentrate on starting anew after losing everything. Sharing their thoughts, CUDDLY highlighted the difficulty of this choice for the family, which was the only way for them to focus on rebuilding their shattered lives.
As if the situation wasn’t challenging enough, Manzanita needed urgent veterinary care due to her neurological symptoms. To provide the necessary support, her caregivers initiated a fundraising campaign with CUDDLY. Although initial examinations couldn’t pinpoint the cause, experts suggested her issues might be due to exposure to a virus before birth. Fortunately, her condition wasn’t permanent.
The little puppy was then taken under the wing of another rescue organization, Love Leo Rescue. Here, she was placed in a wonderful foster home where she began to thrive. Manzanita’s loving nature shone, especially her fondness for both humans and other dogs, making her a standout candidate for adoption. Love Leo Rescue shared on Facebook that she is a joyful puppy who deserves a happy life, delighting everyone around her.
In an unexpected turn of events, Manzanita’s story took a heartwarming twist. On February 10th, 2025, Love Leo Rescue announced that Manzanita had found her forever home. Her journey had captured the hearts of many, including her first adoptive family from across the country. Keen to reconnect, they reached out and arranged a meeting.
Upon reuniting, it quickly became clear that Manzanita belonged with them. “They were in town and wanted to meet her. It was a true love connection,” shared Love Leo Rescue online. After this joyful reunion, her family flew back two weeks later to officially bring her home.
Manzanita’s story, marked by struggles and resilience, finally led her to a loving place where she is cherished. Her days of drifting from one temporary shelter to another are over, and she can now enjoy the stability and warmth of a forever home. Hopefully, this chapter marks the beginning of a happy, stable life for little Manzanita.
