Kristin Erwin, founder of the Streethearts Project in Dayton, Texas, was driving home when she felt a sudden urge to visit a road notorious for abandoned dogs. Her instincts were right. As she approached, she saw a lone puppy frantically chasing a car, seemingly pleading for help.

The car soon sped off, leaving the puppy behind. However, the little dog quickly turned her attention to Erwin’s van and began following it closely. When Erwin stopped, the puppy eagerly ran up to her, tail wagging as if she had been waiting for this moment.

Erwin spoke softly to the puppy, which further encouraged the pup to come closer. “She was jumping all over me, greeting me,” Erwin shared with The Dodo. The moment the puppy peeked into the van, Erwin gently picked her up and placed her in a crate she kept handy for rescues.

Without any identification like a collar or microchip, Shiloh was officially a stray. Erwin welcomed her into her home to foster her. Shiloh quickly bonded with Erwin’s other foster dogs and displayed a spirited and playful nature typical of puppies.

“She doesn’t realize how big she is and tries to fit on your lap,” Erwin noted, adding that Shiloh’s curiosity led her to be quite the adventurous “counter surfer.” Despite some typical puppy antics, Erwin described her as a fun and delightful companion.

Shiloh is now receiving the care she needs, including vaccinations, a microchip, and a spay procedure, and will soon be ready to find her permanent home. The Texas Bark Squad, a Houston-based rescue organization, is handling her adoption process.

Erwin hopes that Shiloh will soon find a loving family who will cherish her as she rides into a happy future.
