When Nina Love, a seasoned animal rescuer from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, heard about an abandoned dog near active railroad tracks, she knew time was of the essence.
Nina quickly gathered her rescue gear and contacted a close friend and fellow rescuer who was nearby, ready to join her. Every second counted as the dog’s safety was at risk.
Upon arriving, they found the dog near the tracks, visibly confused and distressed. However, capturing the canine was more difficult than they had expected.

“I trailed her for three miles down the train tracks, adrenaline pumping. A train had just passed as she got onto the tracks, and they come every 10 to 15 minutes,” Nina recounted.
As she followed the dog, Nina was aware of the danger she was in. Still, the dog’s frightened demeanor drove her to take the risk. “I was scared, but I wanted to help her. She was so terrified, so I kept my distance and stayed patient.”
Nina’s friend brought her dog, Teddy, a move that turned the tide. The abandoned dog immediately reacted to Teddy’s presence, visibly relaxing at the sight of another calm canine.

“We crouched down, and my friend spoke softly while Teddy approached. The dog hesitated, but my friend held her steady until I could leash her,” Nina explained.
Just as they secured the pup, the ground vibrated with the approach of a train. With moments to spare, they lifted the dog and sprinted off the tracks as the train thundered by.
“Seconds after we captured her, the train came. We were so focused we didn’t even hear the horn,” Nina said.

The entire rescue was documented, providing a glimpse into the intensity of the event.
This wasn’t Nina’s first challenging rescue. She has saved numerous dogs from dire situations in Philadelphia and beyond, solidifying her reputation as a fierce advocate for animals.
“I want people to know it’s okay to love animals. We all share this Earth and should learn to coexist,” she expressed.

Despite facing criticism for her bold approach and encountering racial threats as an African American in her field, Nina remains undeterred, committed to her mission.
“I’ve faced challenges, but I stay strong because the animals need us,” she asserted.
Now, Nina is searching for a foster home for the rescued dog, ensuring she receives care and compassion after her terrifying ordeal. She is confident that in a loving environment, the dog will regain trust in people and discover that kindness still exists.
